Wanda Costen, associate professor of retail, hospitality, and tourism management, has received a Fulbright Award for research and teaching in Jamaica. This award will allow her to explore explanations for women’s inequality in the hospitality and tourism industry in Jamaica, and is intended to provide essential information to government ministers and business executives about how sociological processes are keeping women from gaining access to management jobs.
By focusing on the hospitality and tourism industry, this project will formally document women’s experiences in an important segment of Jamaica’s economy, and will subsequently generate practical recommendations for reducing gender inequality in the workplace.
