Stephanie Bohon is a demographer and associate professor in the Department of Sociology. Bohon studies new destination immigration, and is one of the founders of that field, which examines the complex interplay between immigrants and areas that are not traditionally places where immigrants have settled. As the rates of immigration have increased over the last ten years, this has become an issue of increasing academic and political importance. Bohon is also the co-founder of the Center for the Study of Social Justice, a research center focused on creating greater inter-disciplinary collaboration across UT faculty, and currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Southern Sociological Society. Bohon’s recent articles have been published in highly prestigious journals such as Society & Natural Resources and the Journal of Latino-Latin American Studies.
