Bin Hu, associate professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
Hu received a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics in 1991 from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on the electrical and optical properties of new polymeric materials that are finding novel applications in new classes of light-emitting devices and flexible solar cells. Prior to joining the faculty at UTK, he worked as a senior research scientist at SICPA Securink Inc., where he led the research and development on polymer polarized optical imaging technologies and organic two photon light-emitting materials.
His work has received great attention from the Department of Defense, and he was recently awarded a major 5-year extension from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFoSR) to continue his efforts. He is also the recipient of a prestigious NSF CAREER Award.
