L. A. Boatner, adjunct professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has been named a Fellow of the Materials Research Society. Boatner’s citation is for “pioneering, sustained, and innovative contributions to the fundamental understanding, processing and applications of single crystals, nanocomposites, rare-earth and actinide compounds and scintillators.”
Claudia Rawn, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, was invited to serve as a member of the U.S. National Committee for Crystallography. This group promotes the advancement of the science of crystallography worldwide with members from various disciplines.
Lars Eriksson, adjunct professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and researcher at the Scintillation Materials Research Center, was elected a Fellow of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his work in the development of instrumentation and methodologies for molecular imaging.
Gajanan Bhat, professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was elected President of The Fiber Society for 2009 during the Society’s annual meeting in December.
Nagraj Kulkarni, research assistant professor of materials science and engineering, recently presented an invited talk titled “Assessment of Diffusion Formalisms for Databases” and chaired a session at the Materials Science & Technology 2008 Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa.
