Glen Tootle, assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, recently assumed the position of Commanding Officer for the United States Navy Seabee Battalion. Tootle will oversee all operations of the 580 member battalion. The elite “We Build, We Fight” Seabees were formed during World War II and provide engineering and construction support to combatant commands throughout the world.

Joshua Fu, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been appointed as an international adviser by the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center. He is assisting the agency to establish an air quality forecasting system to provide hourly and daily status updates during the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.

Chris Cherry, assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, recently participated in the Asian Development Bank SUMA (Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asia) Summit in New Delhi, India. He presented the results of two studies, “Electric Bikes in the People’s Republic of China: Impact on the Environment and Prospects for Growth” and “Electric Two-Wheelers in India and Viet Nam: Market Analysis and Environmental Impacts.”
