Ryan Shorey is a doctoral student in the Department of Clinical Psychology. His research focuses primarily on violence that occurs between young dating couples, although he also investigates domestic violence that occurs in all intimate relationships. Ryan, in his 4th year of doctoral training, has already published 35 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is first author on 27 of these manuscripts, and he has many more under review. Ryan works with Dr. Gregory L. Stuart, and they recently published a comprehensive review paper on the relation between alcohol use and dating violence in the journal of Aggressive and Violent Behavior. In addition, Ryan’s dissertation examines the temporal association between alcohol use and dating violence, using a state of the art electronic daily diary design. For his efforts with this study, Ryan received a prestigious National Research Service Award (NRSA; F31) from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, which will provide him with three years of financial support for his graduate training and his dissertation study. In May 2011, Ryan received the overall outstanding graduate student research award from the Department of Psychology.
